Melody, texture, poetry, simplicity. Trevor Powers crafted beautiful debut masterpiece from home in Boise, Idaho. Electric piano, light guitar, drum machine, and eerie vocals that recall Neil Young and Herbert the Pervert from Family Guy. It all works.

Grand Tetons over Jackson Lake

Spurred memories of July-August, 2009: Montana Summer. Spent five weeks in Big Sky, which was really home base for sorties to Bozeman, Yellowstone, Glacier, Beartooth Wilderness, and those glorious Grand Tetons. Driving south from Yellowstone, through winding roads beneath tall trees, before rounding bend to see — Ah! —this paradise.

Watching ESPY awards, struck by efforts to highlight female athletes as much as males. Notably, Abby Wambach’s miraculous game-tying goal against Brazil wins Best Play over Marshawn Lynch’s earthquake run, DeSean Jackson’s fantastic punt return, and Wayne Rooney’s bicycle kick. America votes for women playing soccer over men playing football. Well done, Title IX.

Dispatch from Disillusioned in Damascus:

Stormed American embassy in Damascus today. Seemed like fun way to stick it to American Imperialists, pass time, and impress beautiful women. Climbed walls for good leg, calf and upper body workout. Sprained ankle dropping to other side. Sought ice for first aid, but US Marines inhospitable. Other vandals not helpful. Did not get laid.
